Sustainable ICT
What is socially responsible ICT?
In every aspect of their work, VCS organisations try to ensure that their policies and practices are socially responsible and fair. ICT should be no different. There has often been too little information from ICT suppliers about the role that ICT can play in promoting positive social change. The Make IT Fair video on the right gives an illustrated overview of labour rights issues.
New technologies also raise organisational issues at every level, right up to the global. There are concerns about the irresponsible expansion of patent laws, restricting knowledge-sharing which is vital to fair trade and economic development.
